Following the blast at Rameshwaram Cafe in Whitefield, Bengaluru, on Friday, March 1, the Bengaluru police have reportedly detained a suspect in connection with the incident. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, is currently being interrogated by a special team from the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police, reports The News Minute. He is believed to have been seen alongside the main suspect responsible for planting the bomb inside the cafe.
According to police reports, the main suspect, disguised with a mask and glasses, was captured on CCTV footage carrying a plate of idli before the explosion occurred. The detained individual, who was seen alongside the primary suspect, is now under scrutiny by the Bengaluru police.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that the blast was triggered by a low-intensity improvised explosive device concealed within a customer”s bag. The explosion resulted in at least nine injuries, with all affected individuals currently receiving treatment at Brookfield Hospital and reported to be out of danger.
In response to the incident, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar assured citizens that investigations are ongoing, with multiple teams examining all possible angles.
“It was a low-intensity blast. A youth came and kept a small bag which exploded after an hour. About 10 people received injuries. 7-8 teams formed to probe the incident. We are looking at all angles. I ask every Banglorean to not worry,” the deputy chief minister said.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi condemned the incident, calling for a thorough investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). However, he erroneously linked the blast to un events in the Vidhan Sabha, which had been fact-checked and proven false.
“If the Congress government took whatever happened in the Vidhan Sabha a few days back, this incident would not have happened. It was such a casual reaction…We condemn it & NIA should investigate it…People will not tolerate this…,” news agency quoted as Mr Joshi was saying.
