Bengaluru Commissioner of Police, B Dayananda, has issued a plea for restraint amidst ongoing investigations into the blast at Rameshwaram Cafe. In a statement, he emphasized the sensitivity of the case and urged the media to refrain from speculation, urging cooperation instead.
“As regards Rameshwaram cafe incident, investigation is in full swing. Several teams are working on different leads obtained so far. Keeping in mind the sensitivity of the case and the security concerns, media is appealed not to indulge in speculation and co-operate,” the official X handle of Bengaluru Commissioner of Police said.
The confirmation of the blast being triggered by a low-intensity improvised explosive device came directly from Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The explosion, which occurred at the popular cafe in Bengaluru”s Kundalahalli area, resulted in nine injuries, all of whom are currently receiving treatment at Brookfield Hospital and are reported to be out of danger.
Initial reports suggested a possible cylinder blast, but Divya Raghavendra Rao, co-founder of Rameshwaram Cafe, clarified that the explosion originated from a customer”s bag. This account was corroborated by BJP”s Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, who spoke with the cafe owner.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, while confirming the nature of the explosion, urged against politicizing the incident, citing the need for unity in handling the situation. Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara assured a thorough investigation, with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) set to visit the explosion site.
As the investigation progresses, Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Mohan highlighted the importance of awaiting the forensics report while assuring that all angles would be thoroughly probed.
