Did India Today Sack Rajdeep Sardesai? Here’s The Truth

Rumours have swirled across social media, especially by right wing groups and individuals, claiming that veteran journalist Rajdeep Sardesai was sacked by India Today following controversial remarks about Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and the Line of Control (LoC). The speculation arose after a video surfaced in which Sardesai suggested India consider recognising the LoC as the international border and ceding PoJK to Pakistan, comments made in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack.

These remarks sparked widespread criticism, with many accusing him of undermining India’s national security stance.
However, Sardesai addressed these rumours directly on his News Today programme on 27 May 2025.

In a heartfelt statement, he clarified, “I turned 60 three days ago. It’s normally the age for retirement. But newsmen never really retire. My commitment to the news in 2025 is the same as it was when I joined this profession… 37 years ago in 1988. For the last 11 years, I have been with you here on India Today every night at 9:00 p.m.” He reaffirmed his dedication to delivering “news without the noise” and thanked viewers for their loyalty, confirming his continued role at the channel.

India Today’s official X account further dispelled the rumours, promoting Sardesai’s News Today broadcasts as recently as 27 May 2025. No official statement from the channel or Sardesai indicates any termination. While Sardesai faced a brief suspension in 2021 for spreading misinformation, no such action has been reported now.

The rumours appear to stem from unverified social media posts, including a tweet by ABP News journalist Megha Prasad, which did not explicitly name Sardesai. As of now, the veteran journalist remains a key figure at India Today, and the sacking claims are baseless.
