The Indian Institute of Mass Communication, or IIMC, India’s premier journalism school, has announced the commencement of two-year MA post-graduation courses. The institute, which was declared a Deemed to be University earlier this year, has been running one-year postgraduate diploma courses so far on its various campuses across the country.
From this academic year on, IIMC will run two postgraduate courses: an MA in Media Business Studies and an MA in Strategic Communication. The courses will be held at the IIMC New Delhi campus. Each course will have an intake of 40 candidates.
“IIMC, which was declared a Deemed to be University earlier this year, is pleased to announce the launch of its first ever MA (PG Degree) programs. More details regarding courses and admission process will be shared soon,” a statement from the institute said.

Due to its status as a deemed university, the institution can also offer PhD programmes. According to reports, they will be introduced in the academic session of 24–25. The institute has been running nine diploma programmes in journalism, mass communication, and media.
On January 31, India’s premier journalism and mass communication institution was declared a deemed to be university under a distinct category by the Ministry of Education on the advice of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The declaration includes the IIMC New Delhi and campuses located in Jammu (Jammu & Kashmir), Amravati (Maharashtra), Kottayam (Kerala), Dhenkanal (Odisha), and Amravati (Maharashtra).
IIMC was inaugurated on August 17, 1965, by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who was at the time the minister for information and broadcasting.
