NDTV’s Editorial Director and a prominent face of the media house, Sonia Singh, has announced her resignation after over three decades of service. Her last working day will be 30 April 2025, reported E4M. The decision marks the departure of one of NDTV’s longest-serving journalists, who played a key role in shaping the network’s editorial policies.
A public statement from the company confirmed her exit, stating, “Ms. Sonia Singh, Editorial Director and Senior Management Personnel, has tendered her resignation from the services of the company due to her future career plans.” In her resignation mail, Singh reiterated that her departure was based on personal career decisions, adding, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all Board Members and the Management for their support and cooperation during my tenure. It has been a privilege to contribute to the growth of the company, and I wish it continued success in the years ahead.”

Singh’s journey with NDTV began in 1992 when she joined as a researcher for The World This Week, a programme produced for Doordarshan and hosted by Prannoy Roy. Over the years, she rose through the ranks, becoming the Editorial Director and President of the NDTV Ethics Committee, overseeing journalistic standards and editorial integrity. She also hosted The NDTV Dialogues, a discussion-based show featuring policymakers and experts on national and global issues.
Reacting to her departure, Sanjay Pugalia, NDTV’s Executive Director, acknowledged her contributions. “We accept Sonia’s decision to step down with deep gratitude and respect. As one of the founding pillars of NDTV, she has played an instrumental role in building India’s greatest media brand. We extend our heartfelt thanks to her for her unwavering commitment and wish her the very best in all her future endeavours,” he said.

Singh has reported on several landmark events in Indian history, including the Kargil War, the Kandahar hijacking, the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, and the Jessica Lall murder case. Her sharp political coverage and investigative journalism earned her multiple accolades, including awards for Best Talk Show, Best Anchor, and Best Editor-in-Chief at the Emba Awards, as well as the FICCI Young Achiever Award.
Academically, Singh was awarded a three-month scholarship by the Italian government to study in Perugia and is also a Chevening Scholar, having attended a broadcast journalism programme at Cardiff. Her departure from NDTV comes amid a series of high-profile resignations following the Adani Group’s takeover of the company in 2022. Notable journalists such as Ravish Kumar, Sreenivasan Jain, Nidhi Razdan, and former president Suparna Singh had also left after the change in ownership.

NDTV, which started as a production house for news segments under a contract with Doordarshan, grew to become India’s first independent news network. It launched a 24×7 news channel in collaboration with Star India in 1998 and became an independent broadcaster in 2003 with NDTV India and NDTV 24×7. However, after Adani’s acquisition, concerns over editorial independence led to an exodus of veteran journalists.
With Sonia Singh’s departure, NDTV loses yet another prominent figure from the era of its founders, Prannoy and Radhika Roy.
Sonia Singh is married to BJP leader and former union minister in the UPA government RPN Singh.
