Edited by Dileep Kumar S

Arvind Gunasekar, Tamil Nadu-born senior journalist who was working with NDTV, has left the media house.

”Signing off, one last time,” wrote Gunasekar, one of the most promising political reporters in the country on X.

The journalist, who joined NDTV in 2019 from Tamil Nadu-based Thanthi TV as a correspondent, is leaving the New Delhi based news channel after working as a senior special correspondent for almost two years.

He hasn’t mentioned any reason so far for leaving the Gautam Adani-owned media house. However, Gunasekar has reshared an image he posted on January 1, 2023. The image features former NDTV CEO Suparna Singh, former NDTV Group Editor Sreenivasan Jain and Gunasekar himself. The post on X was done right after Mr Jain announced his resignation from NDTV after Adani takeover.

”It is what it is. #NDTV,” he had captioned the image.

Arvind Gunasekar is an alumnus of School of International Studies, JNU and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore.

In November last year, Saurabh Shukla, an award winning journalist had also quit NDTV. Mr. Shulka had been working for NDTV for about 13 years as Senior Special Correspondent/Anchor.

Gunasekar is the latest name to the series of resignation from NDTV. Earlier, the company’s founders, Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy sold 27.26 percent of the 32.26 percent remaining, after Adani Group became major shareholders of the network. Adani Group became the major shareholder after the Adani enterprise, the media arms of the group acquired thirty percent share.

On November 2022, both the Roys left their role as the directors of the Company. Several senior journalists from the NDTV has resigned after the Adani takeover, including Nidhi Razdan, Sreenivasan Jian among others. Senior news anchor and editor Sarah Jacobe also bid good bye to NDTV earlier this year.

Resignation of noted journalist of the channel, Ravish Kumar came a day after the Roys left the channel. The channel’s group President Suparna Singh, strategy chief Arijit Chatterjee and chief technology and product officer Kawaljit Singh Bedi also quit from the channel in January 2023.

Last month, Dr. Prannoy Roy, had announced his return to business with dekoder.com, described as “one of India’s first AI-Driven Digital Content Platforms for the analysis of elections and global trends.” In an announcement by the journalist-economist-psephologist Dr. Roy, it was revealed that the website and app of the platform will be available soon in 15 different Indian languages.
