Al Jazeera Bureau chief Wael Al Dahdouh left Palestinian territory on Tuesday to receive medical treatment. He has been granted permission to acquire medical treatment from Gaza following a special request from the Journalists” Syndicate in Cairo.

Al Dahdouh who has recently received the syndicate’s 2024 Freedom of the Press award, thanked the Egyptian authorities and journalists for their help, highlighting their support for the Palestinian cause, reports Arab News.

The syndicate has confirmed that Al-Dahdouh has arrived in Egypt through the Rafah crossing.

Al Dahdouh, being a symbol of Gazan resilience, continued reporting despite several members of his family having been killed in the war on Gaza by Israel.
Despite unspeakable trauma, the journalist continued reporting, determined to bring out the plightful situation in the besieged enclave of Gaza ever since the beginning of the war. He and his family were continuously and intentionally targeted multiple times.

Wael, when lost his wife, son, daughter, and grandson to the Israel strike raid, the world watched, helplessly, as he ran toward the bodies of his loved ones. The video of him bidding goodbye to his one-year-old nephew moved the hearts of many.

Wael, 52 worked day and night covering the news of what was happening in Gaza City. During a live broadcast in October, Wael learned that four family members, including his wife Amna, grandchild Adam, 15-year-old son Mahmoud, and 7-year-old daughter Shams were killed in an airstrike at the Nuseirat refugee camp.
Holding on to his tears, Wael said “It”s a difficult moment in the life of a Palestinian journalist when they go to cover an incident for the news and find out that the news is their own family.”

Wael chose to present his pain and the loss of his family to viewers around the world as a part of the pain endured by the people of Gaza every day, says Al Jazeera.

In a targeted Israel strike, his son, Hamza, 27, also a journalist, was killed earlier this month alongside his colleague Mustafa Thuraya while taking the interview of displaced civilians in Gaza.

Al Jazeera Arabic presenter Tamer Almisshal has claimed that the killing of Dahdouh’s family members is part of the ongoing Israeli targeting of Palestinian journalists, specifically Al Dahdouh. Almisshal referred to him as the ‘voice of Gaza’.

“Wael Al-Dahdouh is a pillar in the world of journalism and Gaza,” he said. Despite the struggle, with utmost perseverance, in one voice he said, “his voice will go on – that we can guarantee. All our voices will go on, and we’ll continue to cover this assault to get the truth out every day”.

Al-Dahdouh, according the videos viral on social media, has reached Doha.
