During a debate with BJP spokesperson Shazia Ilmi on July 26, India Today senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai had a heated exchange on Politics on Agnipath and Kargil Vijay Diwas. As retired Major General Yash Mor lamented India’s rural youth’s number one choice, as once was, is not the pride of army uniform now as they have been disheartened after the Covid outbreak.

As Shazia tried to interrupt the Army Major, the show’s host, Rajdeep asked the BJP spokesperson to have patience to listen him as he was telling the truth. This triggered a heated argument between the two, which ended in Shazia removing her mic and walking away from the interview.

Rajdeep, today, shared a video claiming that the BJP spokesperson abused the media house’s video journalist during the show. The video showed the politician misbehaving with the journalist after her fader was allegedly lowered during the live debate on the channel.

The reporter-turned-politician took to X, asking the journalist not to ever bring down her Fader again. “Remember I have been on both sides and know how to handle bullies like you,”  wrote Shazia.

Regarding the debate, the BJP spokesperson said that it doesn’t behove political propagandists masquerading as journalists to sermonise. “And  learn your facts before pitting one Ex Army Chief against all other Defence Chiefs simply to create mischief,” she added, sharing an article by The Wire stating, “Army Chief Says Agnipath scheme came after ‘due consultation.”

Taking to X, addressing the BJP spokesperson, Rajdeep  Sardesai wrote, “Ma’am, @shaziailmiI respect all my guests always. If anything, I am too indulgent: the fader is lowered only to avoid cross-talk and noise on the show. If you have a grouse with me or with an army general on the show, of course, that’s your prerogative. And I respect that too. But for you to chuck the Mike and abuse our video journalist and throw him out of your house is just NOT done,” Rajdeep wrote, adding that the video journalist was only doing his job, and there is no excuse for bad behaviour.
