Samajwadi Party leader Satya Pal Singh Baghel has emerged victorious from Pratapgarh constituency. Dr. SP Singh defeated BJP candidate and incumbent MP, Sangam Lal Gupta, with a margin of 66,206 votes. Dr. SP Singh secured a total of 4,41,932 votes while Sangam Lal Gupta received 3,75,726 votes.
Sangam Lal Gupta is the sitting MP of Pratapgarh. He was seeking a second term from his constituency. He began his political career as an MLA from Prataparh in 2017, and later elected as an MP on BJP ticket in 2019. In 2021, he was promoted as a National General Secretary of BJP OBC Morcha.
Samajwadi Party fielded SP Singh who is an educationist. He was the member of UP legislative council for two terms, in 2002 and 2008.
BSP fields Prathmesh Mishra Senani,a supreme court lawyer and the son of BJP’s Lok Sabha poll in charge of neighbour constituency Kaushambi.
In 2014, Harivansh Singh of Apna Dal emerged victorious, he was the candidate of BJP-Apna Dal alliance. In 2019, Sangam Lal Gupta emerged victorious against Ashok Tripathi by accumulating 436291 votes. Congress was placed third in both elections. Pratapagarh was held by Congress in 2009.
