Telangana Girl Dies After Tying Rakhi To Brothers In Hospital; Had Attempted Suicide Due to Harassment

A 17-year-old girl tied rakhi to her brothers just hours before passing away at a hospital in Telangana’s Mahabubabad on Sunday. The diploma student had reportedly consumed poison after alleged harassment by a local man. She was receiving treatment at the hospital after the alleged suicide attempt, The New Indian Express reported.

The Narsimhulapet police reported that the girl attempted suicide three days ago and was rushed to the hospital. “She was undergoing treatment, but her condition worsened, and she died on Sunday,” the police said.

Before her death, the girl expressed a wish to tie rakhi to her brothers. A video of the emotional moment, which quickly went viral on social media, shows her lovingly kissing their foreheads after tying rakhi on their wrists. She died shortly afterward.

In her complaint to the police, the girl stated that she had attempted suicide due to harassment by a man. Although the police confirmed that the accused is over 18, they did not reveal his name or additional details about the case.

“We have registered a case under the POCSO Act, and the investigation is ongoing,” a police officer said, adding, “The accused is currently on the run. A team has been assembled, and efforts are underway to arrest him.”

According to a report by Samayam Telugu, the girl, a resident of a tribal hamlet in Narsimhulapet Mandal, was a second-year student at a private college in Kodad. She had reportedly been harassed by a young man who had been pursuing her. Unable to bear the constant harassment, she made the tragic decision to end her life and consumed insecticide, the report added.
