Uttarakhand: Months After Marriage, Teacher Dies By Suicide, Family Alleges Harassment, 'Ill-omen' Label By In-Laws
Dehradun, Uttarakhand: A young government school teacher was found dead at her matrimonial home in Dehradun’s Doiwala area, 8 months after her wedding. Her family has alleged she was driven to death due to superstition and dowry harassment
The deceased has been identified as Srishti Kandari, a teacher who got married to Saurabh Raturi, a government employee from Harrawala, in November 2025. In a video recorded by the victim, the woman is heard saying she can “no longer endure” the mental torture she was facing at home.

Her family in Srinagar, Garhwal came to know about her death only after reaching Dehradun. They had been unable to contact her on July 28 and July 29. When they sent an acquaintance to check on her, they found out she had died.
Srishti’s mother, Seema Kandari, alleged her daughter faced continuous mental cruelty over dowry and other issues, which started soon after marriage. Three months after marriage, Srishti’s father-in-law had a heart attack. A priest allegedly told the family that misfortune had started after the new bride came home. The wife was then labelled as ‘manhoos and ill-omen’, being blamed for every problems in the house.

The family says the pressure increased after her father-in-law died 3 days before her death. Police have registered a case based on the family’s complaint under BNS Section 80(2). Further action will depend on the findings based on the post-mortem report, forensic evidence, and other materials.
