July 16, has been marked as a milestone in Instagram’s history as the first-ever picture was posted on Instagram 14 years ago, today. The Guinness World Record reminisced the moment stating on X that the debut picture was posted by co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom on Instagram 14 years ago on the same day.


On this day in 2010, Instagram founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger unveiled the photo-sharing platform that has now been a part of millions of people’s operandi. Soon after the launch, they started posting pictures and experimenting with tangible snaps uploaded in the newly formed application.

At noon on Jul 16, Mike Krieger tried posting their first ever Instagram picture, It looks like a random shot towards a waterbody with a tilted frame without a caption and location since the app wasn’t introduced tagging locations at that time.

Later at 3; 58 in the evening he posted a barrage of light-up emojis attempting to showcase some aesthetics in the first post. One and half hours later Systrom’s third post set the stage for the most popular category called ‘puppy pics’ and was marked as the official post by Instagram as it subsequently shared by many after its disclosure.

Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger in a chat show Sunday TODAY’s Willie Geist shared the success of their app and revealed the mystery regarding which photo was the first-ever image to be posted to the popular yet booming platform on May 7, 2017. They consider the puppy pic as the first Instagram post as it was shared as the official post of the app when it was prepared to be unveiled to the public.

As of today, there are 1.2 billion monthly active users on Meta‘s Instagram, representing over 28 per cent of the world’s internet users. It has been projected that by 2025, there will be 1.44 billion monthly active users on the platform, which would make up 31.2 per cent of global internet users.
