On Tuesday, Premier India fast bowler Mohammed Shami was conferred with the Arjuna Award 2023 for his brilliant performances. For the uninitiated, the Arjuna Award is the second-highest athletic honor, given for good performance over the previous four years and for showing qualities like leadership, sportsmanship, and a sense of discipline.
Shami received the award on the back of his brilliant performance in 2023. He was the leading wicket-taker in the World Cup 2023 with 24 scalps at an average of 10.70 and a strike rate of 12.20, breaking several records. He had the best figures of 7/57 in the quadrennial showpiece event.
