Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan on Sunday claimed a parliamentary seat from the Magura-1 constituency on the Awami League (AL) party ticket following a landslide win in the country”s general elections.
As per reports in Bangladesh media, Shakib won by receiving 185,388 votes while contesting from his constituency of the western town of Magura. The district”s chief administrator Abu Naser Beg said, the Bangladesh all-rounder, beat his rival by a margin of 150,000 votes in his constituency.
Ahead of the elections, Shakib had admitted that he was anxious about the contest but wasn”t facing any obstacles. “The competition and challenges are always there, be it a small team or big team,” he was quoted in AFP.
However, Shakib was infuriated when asked, how will he balance his duties between cricket and politics. “Did I retire?” he asked during campaigning. “If I haven”t retired, then where does this question come from?”
Meanwhile, the 36-year-old, found himself in hot water before the elections after he slapped at a polling booth, as per reports. The video, however, doesn”t indicate what prompted Shakib to take the step amidst the chaotic situation. Although the fan”s actions are not visible in the video, it is evident that the cricketer wanted to take control of the situation.
