England Test captain Ben Stokes is set to make a return for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred, for the first time since 2021, as per a report in Espn Cricinfo. He will link up with his former England teammate Andrew Flintoff at the franchise.
Stokes featured in only two matches in his inaugural season even after being named in the squad. He chose to appear for his national team in the longest format and take his time away from cricketing action to rest in between after having suffered a chronic knee injury. Incidentally, he underwent a surgery for the knee after the 50-over World Cup last year.
As per the report, Stokes will feature in only four matches in the group stage if the Superchargers qualify. It will propel the England all-rounder to feature for the franchise under the tutelage of Flintoff only for a week.
The Hundred will get underway from July 23 with premier players absent in the first week due to the third Test against the West Indies. The coinciding schedule with the Major Cricket League will also be a reason for players missing out in the initial weeks.
Meanwhile, as per ECB the list of injury replacements includes: Will Smeed (Phoenix), Tash Farrant (Oval Invincibles), Riley Meredith (Trent Rockets), and James Neesham (London Spirit).
