A day after India’s legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi died, at the age of 77, his son and actor Angad Singh Bedi on Tuesday took to his social media and shared an overwhelming note on how he and the family perceived Mr Bedi’s death. Even Mr Bedi bid farewell to his kin and Indian gallery after a prolonged illness, the demise sent a significant “shock” to his family and son Angad.

The entire family is still immersed in huge shock as Angad mentions, but they are happy that Mr Bedi went ultimately to rest in peace after having a rich, fearless, and full life. The kin are also excited to know that Mr Bedi inspired many as they are now flooded with the condolence notes. Angad expressed that, they were “moved by each and every message of love” the family received in-person and in-public. He expressed gratitude for all those who celebrated Mr Bedi’s “grit, humour, and giant heart”.

Mr Bedi, who inspired numerous people in his life-time, was also crucial in spending his each day of life carefully wrapped with devotion to family and faith, and “in service to his Waheguru”. “He epitomized living a life that was Nirbhau-Nirvir and were comforted in knowing that he is with His Beloved now”.

The actor affectionately concluded the note by expressing gratitude to have a “fearless leader” as father in life and asserted that the family will uphold Mr Bedi’s values and motto in their life too – “to observe and absorb”. “Keep guiding us from the great beyond”, he added. The former cricket master was survived by his wife Anju and children Angad and Neha Bedi, and cricket world mourned the huge loss, social media flooded with heartfelt statements.

Mr Bedi was the former Indian team captain and owned a distinguished domestic cricket career too, especially with the Delhi team. He was a show-stopper who took 266 wickets in 67 Tests between the years of 1967 and 1979 for team India. In his 12-year-long career, he along with Erapalli Prasanna, BS Chandrasekhar and S. Venkataraghavan, formed the most terrific spin quartet in the history of Indian cricket.

Mr Bedi was born on September 25, 1946 in Amritsar and was initially a slow left-arm orthodox bowler. He played Test cricket for India from 1966 to 1979 and formed part of the famous Indian spin quartet. He was the key player in India’s first ODI victory and played last ODI on June 16, 1979 against Sri Lanka. In the 1975 World Cup match, his clever bowling of 12-8-6-1 held East Africa to 120 runs, says reports.
