Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma today accused Indian Premier League (IPL) broadcaster “Star Sports” of infringement of his privacy. The former Mumbai Indians captain said that despite his resistance and persistent request to avoid recording, the broadcaster recorded and aired a video. One of the earlier audios of the cricketer had gone viral on social media when he made a conservation with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. The viral video had caused him trouble.
Taking to his social media platform, the cricketer lamented that the lives of cricketers have become so intrusive that cameras are now recording every step and conversation “we are having in privacy with our friends and colleagues.”
Rohit Sharma pointed out that the need to get exclusive content aiming to get more views and social media engagement “will one day break the trust between the fans, cricketers, and cricket.”
“The lives of cricketers have become so intrusive that cameras are now recording every step and conversation we are having in privacy with our friends and colleagues, at training or on match days. Despite asking Star Sports to not record my conversation, it was and was also then played on air, which is a breach of privacy. The need to get exclusive content and focused only on views and engagement will one day break the trust between the fans, cricketers and cricket,” he wrote.

The cricketer”s earlier video along with the audio of his chatting with Abhishek Nayar had pushed him into controversy on social media.
The audio of Rohit Sharma was taken down following the social media storm. It was a few days later that the cricketer again suffered being recorded when he was chatting with Dhawal Kulkarni ahead of Mumbai Indians fixture against the Lucknow Super Giants. He was seen requesting the broadcaster not to turn off the audio, as it had already troubled him earlier.
