China’s Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao won the first gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed team event on Saturday.

The favourites for the 10m mixed air rifle team sealed victory at 11:22 am. The reigning champions accumulated a score of 632.2 to advance to the gold medal match.

Sheng, who won an individual silver medal at the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Olympics three years ago at the age of 16, and Huang, 17, kept their cool to edge past South Korea’s Keum Ji-hyeon and Park Ha-jun 16-12.

Meanwhile, the South Korean team of Keum Ji-hyeon and Park Ha-jun took silver. In the bronze medal match, Keum Ji-hyeon and Park Ha-Jun of South Korea finished second in qualifying with a score of 631.4.

Chen Yiwen and Chang Yani continued China’s bid to capture all eight women’s Olympic diving gold by winning the synchronized 3-meter springboard event on Saturday.

The First-time Olympians who reached Paris after securing winning three consecutive world titles finished on 337.68 points.

However, the Americans Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook gave the Chinese duo a scare after scoring equal points in the second round. They fell short in following dives later. The duo took silver with 314.64 points.

China has now won six Olympic titles in a row in the event, which was introduced into the Games program in 2000.
