Unusual Heatwave Fix: China's Rooftop Mist Cooling System Draws Praise
Beijing, China: Amid an intense heatwave, China has adopted an unusual method to cool residential areas and tackle rising temperatures. The system sprays a fine mist of water into the air from rooftops and has gone viral on social media.
Videos that are doing round on the online platforms showed high-rise apartment buildings are fitted with rooftop misting systems that spray a fine mist of water into the air, helping lower temperatures and offering residents relief from the extreme heat.

The video shows thick clouds of mist drifting down from rooftops and cooling the flats and apartment, in addition to the streets and walkways below.
The residential buildings are spraying ultra-fine mist from their rooftops, creating evaporative cooling that can purportedly lower the surrounding air temperature by 5–8°C within minutes. As the droplets evaporate, they absorb heat from the surrounding air, cooling it in the same way sweat cools the human body.
