Cricket World Mourns Former Zimbabwe Captain Heath Streak’s Death

Former Zimbabwe Captain Heath Streak Dies At 49, After Battling Cancer (twitter.com/allindiaradionews)

The whole cricket world is mourning as the death of their favourite Zimbabwean Cricket Legend, Heath Streak, hit the news on Sunday.

Zimbabwe”s former captain Heath Hilton Streak died at the age of 49, in the early hours of Sunday morning. He is the all time leading wicket taker for Zimbabwe in Test cricket with 216 wickets and in ODI cricket with 239 wickets.

Mr Streak was battling with colon and liver cancer. The news of his sad demise was shared by his wife, Nadine Streak, through a heartfelt social media post.

“In the early hours of this morning, Sunday the 3rd of September 2023, the greatest love of my life and the father of my beautiful children, was carried to be with the angels from his home where he wished to spend his last days surrounded by his family and closest loved ones. He was covered in love and peace and did not walk off the park alone. Our souls are joined for eternity Streaky. Till I hold you again”, Ms Streak wrote.

 Former Indian international cricketer Yuvraj Singh took his social media on Sunday and paid condolences to Mr Steak. “Really sad news of the passing away of Zimbabwe’s legendary cricketer #HeathStreak. Having fought my own battle with cancer, I know the strength it takes”, wrote Mr Singh.

“He was one of the nicest guys I encountered along my journey and an even stronger human being. My prayers for the strength of his family and loved ones”, Mr Singh added.


“Deeply saddened to hear the news about Heath Streak. He fought a brave battle against cancer. He will always be remembered as the beacon of Zimbabwe Cricket. Gone too soon. Rest in peace, Streaky. Heartfelt condolences to his family and fans”, remembered Anil Kumble.

“Sad to hear the passing away of #HeathStreak. He was a prominent figure in the rise of Zimbabwe cricket in the late 90’s and early 2000’s and very competetive. Heartfelt Condolences to his family and friends”, wrote former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag on X .


“Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Heath Streak. He was not just a talented cricketer but also a valuable member of our Gujarat Lions family during my captaincy. My heartfelt condolences go out to his loved ones. Rest in peace, Heath”, wrote Suresh Raina on X.

“Sad to hear about lovely friend Heath Streak’s untimely death at just 49 years of age. I played a lot of cricket against him and liked his fierce competitive nature. On one trip we stayed at his farm house and he was a generous host … a thorough gentleman he was, and will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace friend”, said former Pakistani cricketer and captain Wasim Akram.

“Saddened to hear demise of former Zimbabwe pacer Heath Streak #RIP. Legend of the game & humble human being. Condolences to his family & friends”, said former Pakistani international cricketer Mohammad Hafeez.

“Sadden to hear about the demise of Heath Streak. He was a high quality cricketer from Zimbabwe. My deep condolences to his family”, wrote former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan on X.

Member of Parliament and former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir noted, “Saddened by the passing of Heath Streak. One of the greats in bowling, he was a towering figure in cricket. May god give strength to his family and friends!”, on X.

“So sad to hear about Heath Streak passing away at 49. He was a lovely person and we”ve had some fun interactions over the years”, Pakistani former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar remembered Streak.
