A Delhi Court has granted divorce to star India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan from his estranged wife Aesha Mukerji on Wednesday, October 4. The Family Court in the Patiala House complex in Delhi granted the divorce, noting that Shikhar Dhawan was subject to mental cruelty by his wife Aesha Mukerji. Judge Harish Kumar accepted all the allegations made by the senior India cricketer in his divorce petition against his wife.

The Delhi Court noted that Dhawan”s wife had caused severe mental pain to the cricketer by forcing him to live separately from his only son for years. The Court permitted Dhawan to visit his son for a certain duration, including overnight stay with him and family members. The cricketer was also permitted to chat with his son over video call. However, it is important to note that the family court refused to pass any order son”s permanent custody. Shikhar Dhawan stated in his divorce petition that Aesha Mukerji had made him a victim of mental cruelty.

“He (Dhawan) for no fault of his own had been through immense agony and anguish of living separately from his own son for years,” the court order read. Ayesha Mukherjee, a Melbourne-based Kickboxer, got married to Shikhar Dhawan in 2012 and the couple got divorced in 2021. Earlier in an interview with India Today, the Indian left-hand batsman stated that he failed to spot the red flags in his relationship. “I failed because the final decision is the person”s own. I don”t point fingers at others. I failed because I was not aware of that field,” Dhawan said.
