The Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Gautam Gambhir engaged in a conversation after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 final.
It was understood that Gambhir was approached by Shah to discuss the role of Team India head coach. The conversation between Shah and Gambhir was centered around that idea following KKR”s win in the IPL 2024 final against SRH in Chennai.
“The buzzword inside the coach selection circle is “desh ke liye karna hai”. Both the BCCI and Gambhir share the belief that “we must do it for the country.” And the conversation between Jay Shah and Gambhir is understood to be centered around this idea,” the report in Cricbuzz said.
Furthermore, the report said, that Gambhir is known for his patriotism and wears it on his sleeves. The former KKR mentor had said in his close quarters that he is considering the approach from the Indian Cricket Board. Additionally, KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan is aware of the development, after offering him a 10 years contract with the franchise.
However, there is no confirmation if Gambhir has applied for the role. Shah had clearly mentioned that the Indian Cricket Board is willing to look at an Indian as the successor of Rahul Dravid at the position.
