Gautam Gambhir Gives First Interview For Team India Head Coach Role; Fires Warning To Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma

Team India opener Gautam Gambhir gave his first interview for the Team India head coach role on Wednesday. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) coach presented himself in front of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) and reportedly opened fire on the Team India players who are “on the wrong side of 30”.

As per former Team India opener Aakash Chopra, Gambhir is contesting against ex-India women’s team head coach WV Raman, for the role which is set to be announced on Wednesday.

“Gautam Gambhir has given the interview. It’s been said that it was a virtual interview as opposed to WV Raman, who gave a fantastic presentation. I have just read that. Gautam Gambhir is the frontrunner in this race. It’s been said everywhere and we have also understood that,” Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

“I am saying it will be an interesting tenure because you will have to manage the transition here, and that is never an easy thing. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, maybe Ravindra Jadeja, especially their roles in T20s, there are plenty of people who are on the wrong side of 30, 35 to 37, including Ravichandran Ashwin,” he added.

The official announcement for the Team India head coach role will be made in due course. It has been reported that Gambhir’s first tenure as the Team India head coach will run until the 2027 ODI World Cup.

In this period, Gambhir is likely to make big calls for the national team, with players likes Kohli, Rohit, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammed Shami, in the twilight zone of their careers.
