Following the appointment of the newly appointed Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir, the focus shifts to the appointment of his support staff with little or no clarity on it. However, as per a report in Cricbuzz, the former India opener wants to appoint Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) assistant coach Abhishek Nayar as his support staff.
It is understood that the selection process for the other support staff for Team India will take some time but due to the professional bond that Nayar shares with Gambhir, he will be roped in for the role. Besides having the experience of an assistant coach with the three-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, Nayar was also appointed the head coach of Trinbago Knight Riders.
Further reports suggest that T Dilip, who played an influential role as a fielding coach in Team India’s success at the T20 World Cup 2024, will be retained in his position despite the Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) thanking him for his services and suggesting that it was no longer required.
“The Board also congratulates Mr Paras Mhambrey (Bowling Coach), Mr T. Dilip (Fielding Coach), and Mr Vikram Rathour (Batting Coach) on a highly successful tenure. The BCCI values their contribution and wishes them the best going forward,” the BCCI said in a statement.
The Indian Cricket Board is considering Vinay Kumar and L Balaji for the position of bowling coach, the report suggested.
