Cues from the inaugural edition of the Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) suggest that the first of three-match T20I between India and Bangladesh at the New Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium on Sunday will turn out to be a high-scoring affair.
The match will mark the return of international cricket in Gwalior after 14 years. In the MPL, the average first innings score was 171 while for the second innings, it was 150. Totals in excess of 190 runs were also chased down at the venue with the domestic tournament starting with Jabalpur Lions registering the highest total of 249 for 4 and Bhopal Leopards responding with 216.
“In the 12 games played here in June, teams crossed 200 four times. The pitches here have supported batters and it won’t change on Sunday as well,” a Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) official told The Indian Express.
“The average score went down because three or four games were affected by rain,” said the official.
The hosts will be eager to try out new combinations with Lucknow Super Giant speedster Mayank Yadav, who clocked over 154kmph in the IPL, getting his maiden call-up in the 15-man squad, and the likes of fast bowler Harshit Rana and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, among the other uncapped players in the rank.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh will begin a new era without the services of their veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan with Mehidy Hassan Miraz set to become the spin bowling spearhead across formats.
