Spanish tactician Mikel Arteta has left a resounding impression in his career as the manager of Arsenal.
Arteta took charge of the London-club in 2019, when they were hardly challenging the Premier League title. Cut to 2024, his club are one of the front-runners to clinch the title for the first time, since 2003-04.
The Spaniard has worked under one of the best footballing minds in the world — Pep Guardiola — but he chose to use his methods to develop his players and strengthen the squad.
In a recent tactic to make his squad more alert, ready, and prepared to face all kinds of situations on the pitch, the Spaniard hired some pickpockets who were designated to steal valuables from the Arsenal players during a team dinner.
Although this method is not typically used by a lot of managers across the footballing circuit, Arteta is known for using such methods, which is often deemed as ‘weird’ by his critics. He had previously brought an olive tree to a team meeting besides using a light-bulb during a team-talk as filmed in the ‘All or Nothing’ documentary.
It, however, remains to be seen if the players were able to catch up to his mindset and technique as Arsenal begin their pre-season friendly against Lyon and then take on Wolves in their inaugural Premier League 2023-24 encounter on Saturday.
Under his tutelage, the club finished in the second spot last season, five points adrift of eventual champions Manchester City and will be looking to go one better in 2024-25.
