Last night witnessed a dramatic 2-1 win against Real Madrid in a hostile Bernabéu. For the first time since 2009, leading with 3-0 in the Champions League quarter against Real Madrid after the first leg at the Emirates Stadium in London, Arsenal had beaten the defending champions to reach the League semi-finals.
It was a night indeed, Arsenal fans would never like to forget. Though the game was tightly packed with incidents, starting with saved Bukayo Saka’s penalty and Kylian Mbappé’s overruled spot-kick took place in the very beginning of the match.

Mikel Arteta, the man behind the win, said, “One of the best nights in my football career. We played against a team with the biggest history. It has been an inspiration for all of us in this competition.”
Moreover, the history held by Arsenal in the league is short as this was the third time they have entered the finals. And all credit goes to Arteta as his preparation for the tie was meticulous. He had even gone on for the advice from his former Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.
During the match, Saka saw a penalty saved by Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois on the night but scored in the 65th minute to give Arsenal the lead on the night. “We showed that we can play in Europe and beat one of the best teams in the world, home and away. Very proud of this team,” Saka said to TNT Sports after the win.
On the other hand, 15-time champions Real Madrid did not make it to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2020. They have lost 11 games in all competitions, while their performance in both legs against Arsenal was alarming.
