How Brendon McCullum Forced James Anderson's Test Retirement

James Anderson is set to bring the curtain down on his glittering England career after coach Brendon McCullum made it clear that he is not a part of the future plans for the national team.

According to a report in the Guardian, McCullum discussed his plans during his visit to the United Kingdom from his home in New Zealand over a golf session. His future plans meant that the England side is building a pace attack for the next Ashes Test series in the 2025-26 winter. Anderson is likely to make his last Test appearance in late August at his home ground, Old Trafford.

“I don’t know, honestly. Who knows where the end line for him is but for now, just enjoy having Jimmy around and make sure we utilise that experience he’s got. He’s a great resource for the other guys within the unit,” McCullum had said of Anderson when asked if he could make it to the next Ashes series during the end of India tour.

Anderson, the most successful Test seamer in the history of the game with 700 wickets, will turn 42 in July. He has recorded poor runs in the recent Test series against India, mustering only 10 wickets, in four of England”s five-Test series.

Overall, he has picked up 15 wickets in the last eight Test at a poor average of 50.8.
