New Zealand opener Devon Conway and bowling coach Andre Adams tested positive for Covid-19, New Zealand Cricket confirmed in a statement on Friday. The duo will not be a part of the team in the fourth T20I against Pakistan in Christchurch.
As per the statement, the left-handed opener tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday and has been isolated in the hotel. In his absence, Canterbury Kings batsman Chad Bowes will join as a cover while Canterbury Men’s Development Coach Brendon Donkers will take Adams” place in the team practice session.
“Devon Conway has been ruled out of the fourth T20I against Pakistan after testing positive for COVID. Conway has been in isolation at the team’s Christchurch hotel after testing positive yesterday. Canterbury Kings batsman Chad Bowes will join the squad today as cover,” New Zealand Cricket said in a statement.
“Bowling coach Andre Adams has also tested positive for COVID and will also remain at the team’s hotel. Canterbury Men’s Development Coach Brendon Donkers will join the team for today’s match to help out in Adams’ place,” the statement added.
Conway has not batted to his potential in the ongoing series as he notched up the scores of 7 and 20 in the last-two T20s and was dismissed for a duck in the first match. He averages nearly 39 in the shortest format of the game and will be a vital cog for the Kiwis in the run up to the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Earlier, all-rounder Mitchell Santner had missed the first T20I due to Covid-19. He joined the team after recovery and has led the side in the third T20I after Kane Williamson had to be sidelined due to a muscle strain. He is also expected to lead the side in the fourth match.
