Indra Nooyi Steps Down As ICC's First-Ever Independent Woman Director

Former PepsiCo CEO, Indra Nooyi, stepped down as the first-ever independent director of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

It is believed that she stepped down from the role at the Annual Conference in Colombo, last year, leaving the coveted position vacant for a suitable candidate. As per a report in Cricbuzz, an Australian candidate is likely to step into the position with the governing council looking for a candidate who can fit into the definition of an independent candidate.

The Chennai-born Indian-American took office in June 2018, for an initial period of two years. The rules in the ICC constitution state that an independent woman director is eligible for three terms of two years and she completed six eligible terms in July 2024.

Nooyi was appointed to the role by former ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar after she served PepsiCo from 2006 to 2018 as CEO.

Following her exit, the ICC now has 16 members on the all-powerful Board – 12 full members, three Associate Nation directors, and the chairman. Otherwise, the governing council has 17 members, a number significant since the directors to elect the new chairman as mentioned by the ICC on Tuesday.
