IPL 2024: MS Dhoni Extends Record For Most T20 Dismissals By Wicketkeeper

Written by Timeline Sports Desk

Former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni extended the record for most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in T20s during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash against Delhi Capitals at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

He achieved the feat when Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw caught an outside edge of CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the 11th over.

Incidentally, the CSK veteran is the only wicketkeeper to record this milestone in the shortest format. Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Dinesh Karthik and former Pakistan player Kamral Akmal are joint-second on the list with 274 dismissals. The list includes former South Africa captain Quinton de Kock (270) and England T20 captain Jos Buttler (209).

Dhoni, who is the twilight zone of his career, remains the go to-figure for his squad despite handing over the captaincy to Rututaj Gaikwad ahead of the season. Meanwhile, CSK head coach Michael Hussey said that it will be a challenge for his franchise to play in conditions, away from home, which they are not used to.

“We go on the road now for a couple of games against Delhi and Sunrisers Hyderabad and it’s always a challenge playing away from home in different conditions that we’re not used to. So, I think it will be a great challenge for the team,” Hussey was quoted as saying by espncricinfo.

Dhoni has not got to bat in the first-two matches of the IPL 2024. The franchise have begun their title defence on a positive note as they defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets in the inaugural contest and then thrashed last season’s runners-up Gujarat Titans by 63 runs.
