Olympic Medallist Sarabjot Says No To Government Job - Here’s Why

Indian shooter and Olympic bronze medallist Sarabjot Singh has declined a prestigious government job offer to focus entirely on his shooting career. The Haryana government had extended the post of Deputy Director in the Sports Department to Sarabjot, but the athlete, who recently made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics, chose to prioritize his passion for the sport over a secure career path.

“The job is good, but I will not do it right now. I want to work on my shooting first,” Sarabjot said, explaining his decision. Despite pressure from his family to secure a stable position, Sarabjot remains committed to his training and future competitions. “I don’t want to go against some decisions that I have made, so I cannot do a job right now,” he added.

Sarabjot’s decision comes on the heels of his success at the Paris Olympics, where he and his partner Manu Bhaker won a bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event. This victory marked India’s second bronze medal at the Games.

The young shooter hails from a humble background in Dheen village, Haryana. The shooter also had a solid professional record including gold medals in the 2022 Asian Games and ISSF Junior World Cup.
