"One World Cup And Two Copa Titles": Rodrygo and Paredes Clash on the Field (image-x/desmund_oris)
On Tuesday, the reigning World Cup champions Argentina thrashed their arch-rival Brazil 4-1. In some ways, it is considered worse than the 7-1 humiliation the Canarinha faced against Germany in the 2014 World Cup. The loss against Argentina is said to be the heaviest defeat to its rival since 1964.
Moreover, the pre-match comments from Barcelona’s Raphinha had set the stage for a game characterized by numerous confrontations, with Nicolas Otamendi and Leandro Paredes being part of the fiery exchanges during the match. Even before reaching half-time, just after 38 minutes of play, Otamendi seized the moment to confront Brazil’s Raphinha about his earlier remarks using dramatic gestures. Raising the tension, Leandro Paredes also clinched the opportunity to remind Rodrygo that Argentina had won two Copa America titles and the World Cup, a strong reminder of the yellow side’s lack of trophies. Additionally, Rodrigo De Paul was also seen embroiled in his own scuffle with Vinicius Jr., raising the stakes in this historic rivalry.
Throughout the match, the Argentina fans at Estadio Monumental jeered heavily at Barcelona and Brazil star Raphinha, who had made provocative X-rated statements against the reigning world champions during a chat with Romario before the contest.
During a conversation between Raphinha and Brazil legend Romario, the Selecao icon first asked: “We are going to play against Argentina, our biggest rival. Now, thank God, without Messi, are we going to beat them?” In response, Raphinha said: “We will beat them, no doubt. On and off the pitch, if we have to.”

Romario again asked: “Are you going to try to score a goal against Argentina?” The Barca winger replied: “Yes, with everything.” The duo then ended the conversation with Romario making a provocative statement.
However, Brazil’s captain Marquinhos apologized to the fans after an “embarrassing” display in their 4-1 World Cup qualifying defeat by Argentina in Buenos Aires.
