Shardul Thakur To Remain Out Of Competitive Cricket For 3 Months After Foot Surgery

Team India all-rounder Shardul Thakur underwent a successful foot surgery in London; forcing him out of competitive cricket for at least three months.

The Palghar player took to Instagram to confirm the successful surgery. He posted a picture in rejuvenated spirit from the hospital, captioning it: “operated successfully”. Incidentally, it was the second time that Thakur went under the knife. The first time he was operated for a foot injury was in May 2019.

The concern around Thakur’s foot injury recurred during India’s tour of South Africa in December-January.

Thakur featured in his last Test for India at Centurion in December 2023. He, later, returned to feature for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy and guided them to their record 42nd title. As per a report in espncricinfo, the BCCI had requested Thakur to take long breaks during the match to prepare him to return to match fitness.

In the IPL 2024, he featured in nine matches for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He had a dismal run in the season, picking up five wickets, with the best bowling figures of 2/61. He had a poor average of over 61 and an economy of 9.76.
