Jamaican prodigy Nickecoy Bramwell shattered eight-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt”s 22-year-old record at the 51st Carifta Games in Grenada.

The 16-year-old clocked history at 47.26 seconds to become the new world record holder in the U-17 Boys 400m event at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium, Bolt had set the previous record at 47.33 seconds in 2022.

Bramwell entered the competition after overcoming several injury concerns, including a hamstring injury. But the Jamaican was in positive spirits and put them all to bed when he defeated his nearest opponent by 0.07 seconds in the competition.

“It”s a wonderful feeling to break the record,” he said, reflecting on the achievement.

“Since last summer, I have been eyeing the record. So it”s a great feeling I could come out here and get it. I just took my mind off it and focused on the record.”

Bramwell is a school student at the Calabar High in Kingston. He took the social media by storm with his outstanding achievement with fans taking note of his effort.

“And he slowed up before the finish line. Imagine him run straight through,” one of the fans said, adding, “I believe the Jamaicans are the best in the world when it comes to the track.”

“Yes!!! Glad another Jamaican is carrying on the baton. We are a force to be reckoned with,” another fan said.
