Pat Cummins entered history books on Friday as he became the second Australian to claim a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup. He dismissed Mahmudullah, Mahedi Hasan, and Towhid Hridoy in the Super 8 Group 1 clash of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua.
Cummins cleaned up Mahmudullah in the penultimate delivery of the 18th over and later dismissed Mahedi Hasan with a back-of-a-length delivery. The Australian World Cup winner completed his hat-trick in the first ball of the 20th over by dismissing Towhid Hridoy with a slower delivery on to the off-stump.

Cummins became the second Australian after Brett Lee to claim a T20 WC hat-trick after 17 years. He joined the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga, Curtis Campher, and Kagiso Rabada on the list. His returns of 3/29 guided Australia to 28 runs victory (DLS method) and climb to the top spot of Super 8 Group 1.
“I had no idea (on the hat-trick), then saw when it came up on the screen. Set batter in, playing the innings, you never know how it’ll go about, so that was a big wicket (on Hridoy’s wicket) and happy to have restricted them. Few (hat-tricks) in juniors, never for Australia,” Cummins said.
“Agar and Ellis, on the bench, have hat-tricks, joined their club. It’s pretty awesome to tick that off. Good club to be part of,” he added.
