WATCH: Shreevats Goswami Alleges Match-Fixing In Kolkata First Division League

Former India wicketkeeper batter Shreevats Goswami alleged that a match in Cricket Association of Bengal”s (CAB) top division league was fixed due to the manner the batters threw away their wicket. Goswami took to his Facebook account to share the dismissals from the match between Mohammedan Sporting and Town Club.

“This is a Super Division match in Kolkata Club Cricket, two big teams doing this, any idea what’s going on here??” Goswami questioned.

Goswami pointed out that the Mohammedan Sporting batters looked to get out intentionally to concede points to Town Club. Incidentally, the current CAB secretary Debabrata Das is associated with the Town Club. He was the administrator of Team India when they toured England in 2022.

In the first video, a right-handed batter leaves the ball which is bowled straight to his stumps and he later walks off. In the second video, a left-hander left his crease to play a delivery bowled wide off the stumps to be stumped.

Meanwhile, CAB president Snehasish Gaanguly has sought reports from the umpires and observers to look into the matter and take necessary actions.

“We have called a tournament committee meeting on March 2 to take up the matter,” Snehasish Ganguly said.

Goswami, 34, called the match a case of “got up” cricket, which refers to rigged proceedings.

“I am ashamed to see this having played the game which is so close to my heart. I love cricket and I love playing in Bengal but looking at this breaks my heart.

“Club cricket is heart and soul of Bengal cricket please don’t ruin it. I think this is called ‘got up’ cricket. Where is the media now?” Goswami, who played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, added.

The match ended with Town Hall securing all seven points with a win.
