Disney+ Hotstar announced that a record 4.3 crore live concurrent viewers tuned in on Sunday, October 22, to watch India”s match against New Zealand in the ongoing ICC Men”s Cricket World Cup. The new record also surpassed the previous record of 3.5 crore viewers that was registered when India took on Pakistan in the ongoing tournament on October 14.

“Another big night on @disneyplushotstar,” the International Cricket Council (ICC) captioned along with a post on Instagram while announcing this record. Disney+ Hotstar owns the digital streaming rights for the 2023 ODI World Cup. “As the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 enters its business end, and as it grabs the attention of India increasingly, we will continue to strive towards bringing these memorable moments to our users’ screens,” said Sajith Sivanandan, Head of Disney+ Hotstar India. The streaming platform also recently recorded 2.8 crore viewers during the India versus Pakistan match in the Asia Cup 2023.
Earlier on Sunday, India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in Dharamsala. It was India”s first win over New Zealand in an ICC event after 20 years. Pacer Mohammed Shami had taken five wickets, and India restricted New Zealand to 273 runs. While chasing the target, star batter Virat Kohli has scored 95 runs off 104 balls, but he missed his 49th ODI hundred. Mohammed Shami has been named player of the match for his incredible bowling performance. This is India”s fifth successive win in the tournament, and they are currently at the top of the table with 10 points.
