Apple unveiled its Journal app during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) held in June 2023. With the help of this innovative app, users can write about their experiences, and those journal entries can be outfitted with places, activities, photos, voice recordings, and even music. The Journal app is included in the recently released iOS 17.2 beta 2. It will be available to iPhone users when the stable iOS 17.2 is released.

According to the Verge, the Journal app will use on-device machine learning to curate personalized suggestions for users to commemorate within their digital journal. The app can provide users with prompts, called Reflections, that they can write about. The application will send notifications to the user whenever new suggestions for journals are available. The journal entries made by the users are stored locally on their iPhone, and users can also have backups of their entries on iCloud. The Journal app, with a simple user interface, also permits users to bookmark entries. With this, users will not face any difficulty finding those entries later.

Apple has also added enhanced privacy features to its Journal app. The tech giant says that users will be able to protect their journals with their device passcode, Touch ID, or Face ID. “Your suggestions are private, and only what you select will be shared with the app,” Apple mentioned in the App Store. Also, all journal entries are encrypted end-to-end. The journal app is introduced to compete against third-party journaling apps. The app is set to make an impact with major features, and it is expected to be available for users soon.
