Qualcomm unveiled the all-new flagship mobile chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, at the Snapdragon Summit on October 25. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is equipped with high-performance AI across the entire system to provide premium-level performance and extraordinary experiences to users.
The chipmaker said that the new platform will support multi-modal generative AI models, including large language models (LLMs) and language vision models (LVMs). Qualcomm also claimed that it is the first mobile platform focusing on generative AI. “LLM models can run up to 20 tokens/sec – one of the fastest in the smartphone industry, and with stable diffusion, generate an image at a fraction of a second,” mentioned Qualcomm on its website. Various smartphone brands, including ASUS, Honor, iQOO, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, realme, Redmi, Sony, vivo and Xiaomi, will adopt this latest processor for their devices. Notably, Xiaomi”s 14 series smartphones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro were launched in China on October 26. Other flagship Android devices, powered by the same chip, are expected to be available in the coming weeks.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which is based on 4nm processing technology, promises incredible gaming performance as it provides 240 FPS gaming with global illumination and ray tracing. The new chip is claimed to be 98 percent faster and has 40 percent improved efficiency. It also supports Wi-Fi 7 and dual Bluetooth. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip also offers numerous AI-powered camera features. Qualcomm says that the new Video Object Eraser by Arcsoft removes unwanted people and objects from the video at the tap of a finger. It is also powered by Samsung’s first 200 MP image sensor, which permits users to capture multiple videos, object tracking, and 2x and 4x zoom. Also, the new Dolby HDR photo capture promises 10-bit color depth and over a billion colors.
