Amazon has confirmed that Prime Video shows and movies will soon include limited advertisements. In September, Amazon announced the plans to incorporate ads into the platform. Finally, Amazon has confirmed this in an email sent to Prime members and said that ads will begin showing on the platform starting on January 29, 2024.

Amazon said in September that the changes will be applicable in the United States, Britain, Germany, and Canada in early 2024, followed by France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia later in the year. However, the streaming service has not mentioned whether new changes will be introduced in India. Amazon said in its latest email that Prime Video movies and TV shows will include limited advertisements starting January 29. Amazon said that this development will allow them to continue investing in compelling content. “We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers,” added the company.

Amazon also informed users that there will be no change to the current price of Prime membership. Prime customers have the option to avoid the ads by paying an additional $2.99 per month on top of their monthly or yearly Amazon Prime subscription. Notably, the email has also included a link where members can sign up for the ad-free option. The email also highlights the benefits of a Prime subscription. Earlier, streaming services, including Disney Plus and Netflix, also announced plans to show ads on their lower-priced plans. This indicates the significance of ads in the constantly evolving streaming ecosystem.
