As per the reports, The European Commission, which launched investigations into the 2 companies and Alphabet’s Google in March under the Digital Markets Act (DMA), sees Apple and Meta as firsthand cases.

Apple and Meta Platforms are supposed to face charges for failing to comply with landmark EU rules aimed at reining in their power before the summer, the reports said on Friday. EU regulators will issue preliminary findings which are similar to antitrust charges before the summer break in August, with Apple the first to be charged, followed by Meta, the sources said.

As per the reports, The European Commission, which launched investigations into the 2 companies and Alphabet’s Google in March under the Digital Markets Act (DMA), sees Apple and Meta as firsthand cases.

The EU is planning to investigate Apple’s App Store rules. Regulators claim Apple restrict developers from acknowledging users about cheaper options outside the Apple Store, and they are also looking into Apple’s new developer fees along with the interrogation on Meta’s ad-free Facebook and Instagram subscription model.

The DMA requires Big Tech to give space for smaller rivals to compete and make and easy for people to move between booming online services like social media platforms, internet browsers and app stores.

The Commission and Meta declined to disclose anything about it. Apple referred to its March statement where it stated that the company is ready to constructively engage with the Commission, it was confident that its plan complies with the DMA and its rules.

Facebook parent Meta also revealed its plans to train its generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) models with content shared on social media by users in Europe.

The company received backlash on the matter and thus detailed how it will use the content which is available to the public on its social media platforms. Meta pointed out their concern and said that it is not the first company to do it and directed toward Google and Microsoft’s Open AI.
