As the morphed image of Sachin Tendulkar’s daughter Sara Tendulkar and star cricketer Shubman Gill went viral on social media, addressing the deepfake image, Sara Tendulkar responded that “it is disconcerting to see the misuse of technology” since it removes the truth and authenticity of internet.
Taking to Instagram, Sara Tendulkar wrote: “Social media is a wonderful space for all of us to share our joys, sorrows and daily activities. However, it is disconcerting to see the misuse of technology as it takes away from the truth and authenticity of the internet.”
She said that she had come across the deepfake photos of her “which are far from reality.” Some accounts on X has created it with an intention to “impersonate me and mislead people,” she added.
Continuing further, Sara Tendulkar wrote: “I do not have an account on X, and I hope X looks into such accounts and suspends them.”
Before concluding the statement, she pointed: “Entertainment should never come at the expense of the truth. Let”s encourage communication that”s based in trust and reality.”
In the deepfake image, Sara Tendulkar is seen hugging Shubman Gill sitting on a chair, whereas in the real image her brother Arjun Tendulkar is in the picture and cyber fraudsters have morphed Shubman Gill’s face over Arjun’s face.
Previously, similar deepfake images of Rashmika Mandanna and Katrina Kaif were also circulated online. Meanwhile, concerning the deepfake technology issue, the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued an advisory to social media platforms. The Central government asked all the social media platforms to remove deepfake content generated through artificial intelligence (AI) within 24 hours of receiving the complaint.
