Google Maps May Bring Multi-Car Group Navigation Feature; Receives Patent

Google Maps would display all the multiple locations of the travellers involved in the journey highlighting the shared routes to reach meeting points

Google has received a patent to bring a group travelling feature to its Maps app, reported a Lithuania-based blog, IGILTA. The new feature will help the user invite co-travellers to navigate different starting points and reach the final destination.

If the map detects multiple users,  it will coordinate the journey by sending invitations for multi-car navigation further providing synchronised map roots reaching the meeting point. The primary user will be able to choose the lead car and connect it with other travellers in different vehicles going to the same place. The co-travellers will be notified with timely updates about traffic and road-related information from the lead car. The map may provide real-time notifications about the time and distance.

Google Maps would display all the multiple locations of the travellers involved in the journey highlighting the shared routes to reach meeting points. There will also be a speed recommendation alert to keep every other passenger together on the journey.

Now, the new feature of adding many vehicles in one go would benefit big families or a humongous group of friends who are on a trip,  navigating them to the right place. If the vehicle is barely visible or moves out of sight, the other members can track the lead car on Google Maps and reach the destination on the dot. This new feature will make travelling a walk in the park in terms of navigation and direction.
