Google has shipped almost 40 million Pixel series smartphones so far since the launch in 2016. According to Francisco Jeronimo, VP at global market research firm IDC, the tech giant shipped 37.9 million Pixel phones between 2016 and 2023. Google also crossed another milestone by selling 10 million units in the past 12 months alone.

“Sales have been growing double digits in the last few years, with total sales reaching nearly 40 million units since its launch in 2016,” Francisco Jeronimo wrote on X. Google has been constantly trying to maintain and enhance its market share in its major markets including Japan and US. Recently, the Counterpoint Research data revealed that Google smartphones accounted for a record 12 percent share in Japan during the June quarter, and this is six times what it was a year ago. During this period, the Apple”s market share also got decreased. This shows that the Pixel smartphones are becoming the popular brand in the Asian country and even gaining the market share from Apple.

However, Google”s latest shipment data is not enough to surpass Apple. Data suggest that the Apple ships over 224 million iPhones per year and the numbers are increasing steadily. Google crossed this shipment milestone just after the arrival of the Pixel 8 series last week. Google introduced its much awaited Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro at the 2023 Made by Google event on October 4. Both devices are making headlines as they are equipped with numerous AI capabilities. The all-new Pixel 8 series also comes with the new Tensor G3 chipset and camera improvements.
