Google has rebranded its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Bard, as Gemini. Along with the rebranding, Google has also unveiled a dedicated Gemini mobile app to deliver easy AI access on Android and iOS devices.

“Bard will now simply be called Gemini. It’s available in 40 languages on the web, and is coming to a new Gemini app on Android and on the Google app on iOS,” wrote Google CEO Sundar Pichai in a blog post on February 8. Meanwhile, the tech giant has also announced the paid version of Gemini, called Gemini Advanced. The Gemini Advanced will provide access to Ultra 1.0, Google”s largest and most capable state-of-the-art AI model. Google claims that Gemini Advanced is “more capable” at highly complex tasks like coding and logical reasoning with its Ultra 1.0 model.

Users can start using Gemini Advanced by subscribing to the new Google One AI Premium plan. “Gemini Advanced is available as part of our brand new Google One AI Premium Plan for $19.99/month, starting with a two-month trial at no cost,” wrote Sissie Hsiao, a Google general manager overseeing Gemini, in a blog post. Sissie Hsiao also said that AI Premium subscribers will soon be able to use Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Slides, and Sheets.

According to Google, Gemini Advanced not only permits users to have longer, more detailed conversations, but it also has the ability to recall context from previous chats. Google also claims that they conducted extensive trust and safety checks before launching the Gemini Advanced version. The users will also get access to expanded multimodal capabilities, more interactive coding features, and deeper data analysis capabilities.

Moreover, Android users will be able to download a new dedicated Android app for Gemini. “It’s an important first step in building a true AI assistant, one that is conversational, multimodal and helpful,” added Sissie Hsiao. Google also said that on iOS, they will roll out access to Gemini from the Google app in the coming weeks. Gemini is currently rolling out on Android and iOS devices in the United States in English. Google said that additional country rollouts and language support are coming soon.
