Tech giant Google is likely to make a significant change in its artificial intelligence (AI) journey. Google is reportedly planning to rename Bard, its generative AI-powered chatbot, to “Gemini”. This rebrand is expected to happen soon.
A leaked document, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Android developer Dylan Roussel and dated February 7, 2024, indicates Google AI tool”s rebranding. As per the changelog shared by Dylan Roussel, Bard will be renamed to Gemini, and it also mentions that a Gemini app for Android is “coming soon.” Google also mentioned in the changelog that this is a step towards their vision to deliver the “world”s most helpful AI assistant.”
The leaked document also reveals the introduction of a paid version called Gemini Advanced. The changelog also hints at initial availability in over 150 countries, optimized for the English language. Google added a new changelog for Bard, and — oh boy — it”s a big one!
The availability in Canada is awesome! That said I don”t really understand the limitations with the app. That”s disappointing as someone who lives in Europe.

At the same time, Google has not made any official statement on this development. The latest move indicates the search giant”s strategic move to streamline its AI offerings under Gemini. On January 29, 9to5Google reported that Google might rebrand “Assistant with Bard.” Google Bard was unveiled in February 2023 and is powered by Google’s next-generation language model, Palm 2 (Pathways Language Model). “Bard seeks to combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence and creativity of our large language models,” said Google while introducing Bard.
In December 2023, Google unveiled Gemini, its latest AI model. It was developed by Alphabet”s Google DeepMind business unit. Notably, Gemini is a multimodal AI tool as it has the ability to deal with different forms of input and output, including audio, images, videos, and text. Meanwhile, the tech world is waiting to witness the impact of Google”s strategy to tie together its different generative AI services.
