Google has taken a significant decision to refine its search results. The company has announced big changes that are expected to enhance the user”s search experience. Google is aiming to provide high-quality information to users and is also focusing on reducing spam content.

Google announced that they are making algorithmic enhancements to their core ranking systems. The search giant is making this move to ensure that they surface the “most helpful information” on the web and reduce unoriginal content in search results. The company is also set to update their spam policies to keep the lowest-quality content out of Google Search.

Algorithmic enhancements to the core ranking systems are the highlight of Google”s big update. In 2022, Google began tuning their ranking systems to bring down unoriginal content on Search. Google says that the March 2024 core update will reduce the amount of low-quality content on Search and send more traffic to helpful and high-quality sites.

“We expect that the combination of this update and our previous efforts will collectively reduce low-quality, unoriginal content in search results by 40%,” said the company in a blog post on March 5. The tech leader also noted that they are making updates to their spam policies to better address “new and evolving abusive practices.”

Most importantly, Google will now consider very low-value, third-party content produced primarily for ranking purposes and without the close oversight of a website owner to be spam. This policy will be enforced on May 5. It is worth mentioning that expired domains that are purchased and repurposed with the intention of boosting the search ranking of low-quality content will also be considered spam. Apart from these actions, Google is also taking measures against content abuse by strengthening its policies.
