Google is reportedly planning to begin Pixel smartphone production in India soon. Nikkei Asia reported that the manufacturing of ‘Made in India’ Pixel devices will begin by the next quarter of 2024. Last year, the search giant made the significant announcement about the production of Pixel smartphones in the country.

As per the report, the company has told suppliers to manufacture Pixel phones in India by next quarter. This move indicates that Google is trying to diversify its supply chain away from China. It also highlights India’s growing importance in the world of technology. It is worth mentioning that the majority of Pixel devices were produced in China earlier. Nikkei Asia, citing a source, reported that Google aims to ship 10 million Pixel phones in 2024, and the latest shift in the supply chain strategy is part of Google”s ambitious target. The report also noted that the smartphone maker shipped around 10 million units for the first time in 2023.

Citing multiple sources, Nikkei Asia further mentioned that Google will prepare the production line for its Pixel 8 Pro devices in the southern part of India in the coming weeks and will begin manufacturing in the April-June quarter. Notably, the production of the Pixel 8 is also reportedly set to begin in the northern part of the country in the middle of 2024.

In October 2023, Google revealed that they were planning to start production, beginning with the Pixel 8. Google also mentioned that they will partner with international and domestic manufacturers for the production of devices. Rick Osterloh, senior vice president, devices and services at Google, said on that occasion that India is a priority market for Pixel devices. Rick Osterloh added that the company is committed to delivering the best of Google”s hardware and built-in software capabilities to people across India.
