iPhone 15 To Be Locally Assembled In India, Deliveries To Start Next Month

Apple is reportedly set to introduce locally assembled versions of the iPhone 15 in India shortly after its global launch next month. This move is aimed at reducing the time it takes for the iPhone to become available in the Indian market and to enhance the company”s exports from India to other countries. To support this endeavour, a subsidiary of Foxconn, a key manufacturer for Apple, has established a $200 million agreement with the Tamil Nadu government to set up a component manufacturing facility.

The anticipated unveiling of the iPhone 15 is scheduled for September 12, during Apple”s annual launch event at its headquarters in Cupertino, California. In a further bid to bolster its “Make in India” initiative, Foxconn is expediting local production of the iPhone 15 at its facility in Sriperumbudur, located near Tamil Nadu.

Apple has been witnessing robust growth in iPhone sales within India, achieving strong double-digit expansion in revenue for the June quarter. Tim Cook, Apple”s CEO, highlighted this positive trend in the recent earnings call. Analysts at IDC India have projected that iPhone shipments in 2023 will soar to 9 million units, reflecting a substantial 40% increase from the 6.5 million units shipped in 2022. This would mark a significant surge from the 4.5 million iPhones shipped in 2021 and the 2.7 million in 2020.

Sources with insights into the matter revealed that Apple”s objective is to promptly roll out locally assembled iPhone 15 models shortly after their global launch to narrow the gap between the product”s introduction and its availability in the Indian market. By doing so, Apple aims to boost exports from India to various other countries.
